A new website is up and running that can help people in need of food, clothing, counseling and other assistance.
The Dublin Community Asset Network, or DublinCAN, was launched about a month ago at dublincan.org, offering a place for people in Dublin to connect with services they need.
“The goal is to connect people in the community who are seeking assistance with helping organizations that offer the assistance they need,” said Jean Griffith, executive director of Welcome Warehouse.
Welcome Warehouse is an organization that offers assistance through holiday programs and a free store with clothing and household items, but it is also a member of Dublin Faith Community Partners, the organization that sponsors the new network.
DublinCAN offers information about how to connect with alcohol and drug services, mental health help, senior services, education, food assistance, legal services, tutoring, child care and other assistance. KIDSmiles Pediatric Dental Clinic, for example, is listed under dental assistance.
“It benefits the people seeking assistance but also the assisting organizations because it helps us to work together … and be able to communicate better with each other as far as what’s out there,” Griffith said.
Using DublinCAN is free, as is posting a service organization, Griffith said.
“Any religious organization or nonprofit or community group or government agency that serves the Dublin city and school district community would be eligible to have a listing for DublinCAN,” she said. “There are a lot more out there we have not reached yet. We’re hoping to include as much as possible.
“It’s available in four languages: English, Spanish, Arabic and Chinese,” Griffith said. “The website can be translated instantly by clicking a button at the top of the page.”
